Albert, Marie Louise

Marie Louise Albert, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at the Marengo Memorial Hospital in Marengo. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor. Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith Funeral Home in Victor.

Marie was born July 31, 1923, in Victor, Iowa, to Louis Christian and Selma (Van Doorneveldt) Christian. She was raised in Hartwick, Iowa and graduated from Hartwick High School.

Marie married Ralph Albert Jr. on Dec. 22, 1945, at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor. The couple farmed in rural Ladora, where they raised their three children. She was a homemaker and assisted her husband on the farm.

Marie loved to travel in her early years and her most memorable trips were to St. Croix to see her daughter Lori and to Pennsylvania when she was young girl to meet a pen pal, who she had kept in contact with throughout her life.

Later in life, Marie enjoyed playing cards, bingo, going to the casino and listening to country music, especially Patsy Kline.

Marie is survived by her children, Connie (Mike) Wahl of Lincoln, Neb., Danny (Nancy) Albert of Ladora and Lori (Ron) Caltagirone of Cypress, Texas, eight grandchildren, Joe (Shayla) Wahl, Marcus Wahl, Robert (Lisa) Meyers, Randi Jo Conaway, Heather (Dave) Pitz, Shawn (Missy) Albert, Zac Caltagirone and Nick Caltagirone; 16 great-grandchildren; brother in-law, Maynard Saylor; special friends, Sharlee Feller, Cynthia Peska, Mary Huber and Russell Mumm; and multiple nephews and nieces.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; brother, Camiel; sister, Marcella Saylor; and sister in-law, Gloria Barb.
