Albert "Zeke" Cejka, 73, of Cedar Rapids, passed Thursday, July 16, 2015, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, July 20, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. John Caughron. The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 19, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Julie Taylor of Cedar Rapids, Chuck (Jill) Cejka of Marion, Tina (David) Duggan of Cedar Rapids and Tim Cejka of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Heather Taylor, Allyson Manternach, Benjamin Manternach and Emily Cejka; siblings, Bernard (Mary) of Hiawatha, Martha of Des Moines, and Arthur (Sandy), David, Barbara, Susan, Theresa and Rita, all of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Shirley, Edna and Joan Heck, all of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; parents; brothers-in-law, Arnold, Don, Gary and Chuck Heck; son-in-law, Ted Manternach; and nephew, Pat Heck.
Albert was born Nov. 6, 1941, in Newhall, Iowa, son of Charles and Ameila (Drahos) Cejka. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1959 and then went to John Deere trade school in Moline, Ill., where he maintained his straight "A" average, of which he was very proud. On July 20, 1968, he married Janet Heck in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Lisbon until 1976 and then moved to Cedar Rapids, where he resided until his death.
Albert painted and welded rail cars for Barnard Lee; then was head mechanic for Novak Implement, Lisbon; and then in 1976, he began working for Heck's Transfer Moving Co., retiring in 2008.
He loved tinkering in his garage, gardening, polka music on Sunday morning and playing Sizzling 7's slot machine. Albert loved his 1949 Chevy Five-Window cab pickup, and 1950 Chevy sedan, along with his John Deere tractors. He loved to help others and there was nothing that he couldn't fix.
The family would like to give a special thank you to West Ridge Care Center and neurology and neurosurgery care teams of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
