Albers, Madelene Pauline (Rieck)
Madelene Pauline (Rieck) Albers, 89, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a brief illness. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 10, at St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone, with the Rev. B. Andrew Wright officiating. Interment will be at Keystone Cemetery. Friends may call at Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial fund has been established.
Madelene was born July 29, 1923, in Luzerne, to Fred and Theresa (Voss) Rieck, and graduated from the Keystone High School in 1941. On Dec. 31, 1941, she was united in marriage to Delbert M.H. Albers in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed in the Dysart area for 45 years, retiring and moving to Keystone in 1982. Delbert preceded Madelene in death on Jan. 21, 1999.
Madelene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Keystone and several couples card clubs. She enjoyed fishing, dancing, quilting and traveling. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family.
Madelene is survived by her children, Judith (Don) Spratte of Cedar Rapids, Dennis (Susan) Albers of Chelsea, Kathleen (Dan) Kaestner of Atkins and Monica (David) Rhinehart of Vinton; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren, plus one due on Madelene's birthday.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Neal Allen Rhinehart.
