Alan "Al" L. Shramek, 67 of Marion, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 2, 2017, from cancer. A celebration of life gathering will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 5, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in Anderson Cemetery near Swisher.
Al was born Aug. 16, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leonard and Iris (Ford) Shramek. He graduated from Prairie High School. After graduation, he served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at Linkbelt- Speeder and later worked as a maintenance foreman at various feed mills, retiring in 2012.
Al was a caring and giving brother and uncle, always willing to help others.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bowling, fishing, and his loving dogs, Quincy and Dolly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Keith Shramek; and his dogs, Oscar and Missy.
He is survived by his special friend and life companion, Sherry Keller, and family; his brother, Jerry (Sue) Shramek of Van Horne; three sisters, Carol (Gary) Markley of Cedar Rapids, Glenda (David) Montoya of Mesa, Ariz., and Nancy Shramek of Cedar Rapids; two nephews; six nieces; 10 great-nephews; and six great-nieces.
