Al DeRosia Sr., 79, died Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, peacefully in his sleep at his winter home in Mission, Texas. Funeral services will be 11 o'clock Friday morning, Dec. 4, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call after 9 that morning. Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Navy and the Anamosa Veteran Honors Team. The Rev. Greg Griffin will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Wilcox Cemetery, Viola.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; two children, Fred (Kim) DeRosia, Anamosa, and Kelli (Alan) Parker, Martelle; two stepchildren, Teresa Mills and Michael Mills, both of Phoenix; six grandchildren, Kirstin (Jeff) Tedrow, Breana (Nate) Hinders, Tyler DeRosia, Jared (Sierra) Parker and Joel and Jamie Parker; four stepgrand-children; and four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Easton and Kyler Parker and Brecken Hinders; and two sisters, Helen
De Rosia, Onaway, Mich., and Betty Gillespie, Millington, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Agnes, in 2001; three brothers, Harold, Richard and Ralph; and a sister, Margaret.
Alfred Dale DeRosia Sr. was born June 13, 1936, in Ocqueoc, Mich., the son of R.B. and Delila St. Clair DeRosia. Al enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1954. He married Agnes Price on Dec. 14, 1957, in Onaway, Mich. The couple lived many places during Al's Navy career, the last being Meridian, Miss., when Al retired from the Navy. The couple then moved to Anamosa, Iowa, where Al was a cook at the Iowa Men's Penitentiary.
In retirement, Al drove a JETS transport bus for 10 years. Al married Betty Kelchen Mills Pauly on Dec. 22, 2007, in Monticello. The couple spent summers in Anamosa and winters in Mission, Texas.
Al kept in touch with his shipmates from the USS Inchon and USS Terrell County at yearly reunions. He was active in Anamosa Veterans Groups, heading the Funeral Honors Team for many years.
He loved to play golf and had belonged to both Wapsi and Fawn Creek. He shot pool in an area league and bowled at least three nights a week.
