Ahlrichs, Dorothy
Dorothy Ahlrichs, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 11:30. a.m. The Rev. Darryl Larson will officiate at the services. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
Surviving are four children, Patricia (Jack) Zieser, Ryan, Linda (Melvin) Grassfield, Anamosa, Steven (Jean) Ahlrichs, Wilton, and Stanley (Cheryl) Ahlrichs, Hiawatha; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; her great-granddaughter, Frankie Rickels; a twin brother, Donald; a brother, John Steen; a sister, Vera Deedrick; and half brother and half sisters, Alfred Steen, William Steen, Hazel Miller, Roger Steen and Alvin Steen.
Dorothy Edith Steen was born Feb. 9, 1926, in Grinnell, Iowa, the daughter of Arron and Edith (Meyer) Steen. Dorothy received her education in the Grinnell and Dubuque schools. Dorothy worked as the house girl for Clara and Lawrence Heeren. Dorothy Steen and Kenneth Ahlrichs were married Sept. 5, 1944, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Monticello. The couple lived in Monticello until 1953 when they started farming near Scotch Grove. They retired from farming in 1978 and moved back to Monticello.
Dorothy was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church and the Oak Drive Club. She enjoyed quilting, play cards, picking walnuts in the winter and going dancing at Prairieburg.
