Adkison, Timothy Lee
Timothy Lee Adkison, 64, of Marion, formerly of Illinois, died Feb. 5, 2011, at home following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids. Chaplain Jeremy Hudson with St. Luke's Hospice will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 years, Elaine; daughters, Tari Jones and husband Rodney of Marion and Christina Frick and husband Steven of Blue Grass; grandchildren, Madison, Olivia and Sebastian; a brother, Jeffrey Adkison and wife Denise of Washington, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Tim was born March 19, 1946, in Kewanee, Ill., the son of Lyndell and Catherine (Reno) Adkison. He spent his childhood in Cambridge, Ill. He was united in marriage to Elaine M. Thurwanger on Jan. 29, 1966, in Kewanee. He was employed as a heavy machinery operator for many years. Following his retirement, he spent many hours flying and constructing model airplanes with his local Academy of Model Aeronautics club, the Cedar Rapids Quiet Flyers. He enjoyed all the outdoors had to offer, including camping and fishing. He and Elaine often attended craft shows, displaying Tim's many woodworking pieces. He was also an avid science fiction reader.
Above all, his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family, especially his three beloved grandchildren.
Tim will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in Tim's honor.
