ADELAIDE STEVENS Iowa City Adelaide Stevens, 102, formerly of Iowa City, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at Atrium Village in Hills. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City, where a rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. A reception in the church hall will follow the committal services. Adelaide was born July 9, 1913, to Charles and Agnes Nelson in Iowa City. She was united in marriage to Lewis C. Stevens on Dec. 31, 1931, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Adelaide and Lewis farmed for many years in West Lucas Township. She worked for Pepperidge Farm and at Burge Hall. When West High School opened, she worked in the cafeteria for 17 years. She was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Adelaide is survived by her son, Keith Stevens and his wife, Marlene, of Hills, and their children, Larry (Michelle) Stevens of Solon, Rick (Kathy) Stevens of Hills, Lynne (Tom) Briggs of Iowa City, Deb (Duane) Metz of Riverside and Lauri (Leon) Simon of Riverside. She also is survived by her grandsons, Matthew (Trisha) Jones of Iowa City and Randy Jones (Kelly Murphy) of Cedar Rapids. Other survivors include 22 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Neva Haman, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, on April 21, 2003; a daughter, Beverly Jones; her parents; and her brothers, Leo Nelson, Carl Nelson and Vernon Haman. Adelaide's family is deeply grateful to the staff at Atrium Village in Hills, Dr. Rodney Zeitler and Iowa City Hospice for all of their loving care.
