Ada Marie Olmsted, 95, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, where a one-hour visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.
Ada was born on October 2, 1929, in Covington, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Arnolia (West) Rawson. After graduation, she was united in marriage to Albert “Al” Waterhouse on November 27, 1947, at the Covington Church. Together, she and Al owned and operated Waterhouse Dairy and Convenience Store and Waterhouse Sports Center, both in Central City. Al later passed away in 1981. In 1988, Ada was united in marriage to Dr. Hal Olmsted, and they were married until 2009, when he also passed away. Together with her sisters, Chris Moore and Norma McVay, she owned a long arm quilting business called Log Cabin Quilting in Palo, Iowa. Ada was a member of the Eastern Star, TTT, Women’s Business Association of Iowa, and Buffalo Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
Ada was an avid bridge player, and she played twice a week for many years in two separate bridge clubs. She quilted many quilts in her lifetime and loved home decorating. Ada was an excellent homemaker and an exceptional gardener, known for sharing fresh produce with everyone. Ada will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ada is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, James (Kevinn Tam) Waterhouse of Roseville, Minnesota, and Cheryl (David) Smith of Central City; grandson, Roman (Sammie) Smith of Grand Junction, Colorado; and great-grandson, Jackson David Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and all her 15 siblings.
