Aaron Michael Ostlund
AARON MICHAEL OSTLUND
Iowa City
Aaron Michael Ostlund, 32, son of Mike and Kerry (Lehmkuhl) Ostlund, brother of Nathan A. Ostlund and Alex Q. Ostlund, was born Dec. 16,1988, and passed away Sept. 16, 2021.
He was delivered in critical condition by Dr. Brian Welch at Trinity Regional Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa, and was Life Flighted to Blank Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and remained at Blank for six weeks until he was stabilized and able to return home with his family. Aaron suffered brain injury from birth, affecting every bodily function from visual, vocal, and hearing impairment to cerebral palsy and daily seizures, yet was very loving and able to teach many important lessons in life to those around him.
He was a great judge of character based on how people treated him. He would readily provide his infamous hugs to those who treated him well. His favorite hobby was swimming (the only way he was able to move about freely on his own), attending Camp Courageous, listening to music, playing his keyboard, having books read to him, spending time with his family and teasing family and friends.
Aaron is survived by his grandfather, Kenneth Lehmkuhl; mother, Kerry Lehmkuhl Ostlund; brother, Nathan (Danielle) A. Ostlund; twin nieces, Adyson and Adalyn Ostlund; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Aaron was preceded in death by grandmothers, Donna Lehmkuhl and MaryBelle Ostlund; grandfather, Robert Ostlund; father, Mike Ostlund; aunt, Kathy Tagtmeyer; and brother, Alex Q. Ostlund.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to his care providers, education and medical professionals who provided care and support for Aaron throughout his life.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Sept. 21, at 2 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City with a reception to follow at The Kirkwood Room. Private burial will be Wednesday, Sept. 22, at Memory Gardens. Family kindly requests the wearing of masks to the events.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mayor's Youth Empowerment Program (MYEP), Systems Unlimited, or Camp Courageous of Iowa, Monticello, Iowa.
