A.J. "Arnie" Dostal, 81, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by Father Christopher Podhajsky. Military graveside services will follow at St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, followed by a rosary at 6:30 p.m.
A.J. is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marlene; his daughters, Lori Gillen, Lynn Huston, Jill Klostermann and Toni (Tom) Fischels; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Sadie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Dostal; brother, Marvin Dostal; and two sisters, Helen Merta and Esther Kadlec.
A.J. was born Aug. 1, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. After graduating high school in 1954, A.J. served in the U.S. Marine Corps through 1957. He was then united in marriage to Marlene Huber at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. He retired after 35 years of service at Rockwell Collins.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting. He also attended antique auctions and Aladdin lamp gatherings.
