CEDAR RAPIDS — Tuesday is Independence Day and the cities of Cedar Rapids and Coralville are pulling out all the stops to let freedom ring. Several events are planned in both communities on Tuesday. Here is your guide to the Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival and the Coralville 4thFest, along with a weather forecast from the National Weather Service:
Weather
— Daytime — Partly sunny then a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. High of 85 degrees with an east to southeast wind around 5 mph.
— Night — Mostly cloudy with a 40 to 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low of 68 degrees with an east wind of around 5 mph.
Cedar Rapids Freedom Festival

— 8 to 11 a.m. — Pancake Breakfast, Veterans Memorial Building, 50 Second Avenue Bridge. Parking in the Mays Avenue Parkade. Cost: $6 for adults, $3 for children; $1 off with Freedom Festival button.
— 8 a.m. to noon — Freedom Festival Car Show, Third Avenue Bridge.
— 8 to 11 a.m. — Fifth Season Races featuring Health Solutions 8K, start at Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, 410 Third Ave. SE. Event features an 8K run (8 a.m.), 5K run/walk (8:15 a.m.), Kids' Fun Run (9:30 a.m.) and Youth Mile Run (10 a.m.).
— 4 to 10:30 p.m. — Celebration of Freedom, downtown Cedar Rapids. Activities on the bridges include face painting, balloon artist, food and beverages, music, the 'Freedom Express' trackless train, bungee trampolines, Inflatable Zone and military vehicle display. Free with a Freedom Festival button.
— 5 to 9:45 p.m. — Freedom Festival Concert featuring The Roosevelts and The Johnny Holm Band, McGrath Amphitheatre, 475 First St. SW. Gates open at 4 p.m. Free with Freedom Festival button.
— Dark — Fireworks show, shot off from First Avenue Bridge. The Second Avenue and Third Avenue bridges are the best viewing areas. Parking facility rooftops also are open for viewing, but there is no grilling at these facilities.
Other Associated Events
— 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Mount Vernon Antiques Extravaganza, downtown Mount Vernon.
— 1 to 5 p.m. — Fourth of July Swim, at Bever, Cherry Hill, Ellis, Jones and Noelridge swimming pools. Cost: $5 at pools, $5.50 at aquatic centers; $1 off with Freedom Festival button.
— 5 p.m. — Cedar Rapids Kernels July Fourth Military Heroes Night, Veterans Memorial Stadium, 950 Rockford Rd. SW. The first 1,000 fans receive a baseball card set of local military heroes who will be honored following the Kernels game versus the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Fireworks follow the game and special patriotic jerseys worn by the Kernels will be auctioned off to benefit the ALS Association-Iowa Chapter. Tickets: (319) 896-7560 or kernels.com.
— 7 to 8 p.m. — Five Seasons Ski Team, Ellis Park, 2021 Ellis Blvd. NW. Free. This hourlong water ski show features jump acts and a 50 mph barefoot pyramid, among other stunts.
Coralville 4thFest

— 7 to 10 a.m. — Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, Northwest Junior High, 1507 Eighth St. Cost: $5.
— 10 a.m. — Parade, begins at intersection of Ninth Street and 22nd Avenue. This year's theme is 'Coralville Drive-In Theatre' and the grand marshals are Barry and Roxie Bedford. To see the parade route, go to coralville.org/422/Parade.
— 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. — Carnival by Superior Carnival, Coralville Community Aquatic Center parking lot, 1513 Seventh St. Ride tickets are 20 for $20.
— Noon to dark — Food and drink vendors selling items.
— 1 to 2 p.m. — National Dance Academy performances.
— 1 to 3 p.m. — Old-fashioned Lawn Games, Optimist Shelter at S.T. Morrison Park.
— 2 to 3 p.m. — Bounce houses.
— 2 to 8 p.m. — American Legion Bingo, Hilltop Shelter at S.T. Morrison Park.
— 3 to 4:30 p.m. — Yard Games.
— 4 to 7 p.m. — Face Painting by Fun Factory Face Painting.
— 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. — Youth Talent Show.
— 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. — Magic Show with Magic Herman.
— 8:30 p.m. — Iowa City Community Band performs.
— Dark — Fireworks show.
