Wrong number on Google? Cedar Rapids police clarify

If you've used the popular search engine Google to find information on the Cedar Rapids police department, you might have gotten some incorrect information on the department's non-emergency phone number.

Police issued a news release today on the situation, pointing out that "the Cedar Rapids Police Department was made aware that a 'Google' search of our Police Department shows an incorrect number to call for non-emergency service. The listed phone number does ring to the police department, but the line is not staffed full-time, so a call to this number may not be answered.

"The police department would like to let the public know that the number to call for non-emergency police service is (319) 286-5491. This number is staffed 24 hours a day and seven days a week.

"The department is working to rectify the situation."
