Written opinion on Seng's congressional candidacy released

DES MOINES - The Iowa Attorney General's office released its written opinion Friday that will allow Davenport State Sen. Joe Seng to have his name on the primary ballot.

The written opinion elaborates on and puts in writing the opinion of a panel that ruled last week.

The three-member panel ruled that Seng collected enough signatures in counties other than the ones that were being challenged to secure a place on the ballot.

Because of the ruling, Seng will face U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack of Iowa City in the Democratic primary contest for the 2nd Congressional District on June 5.

The winner of that contest will go on to the general election and face either John Archer of Bettendorf or Dan Dolan of Muscatine who are engaged in a Republican primary for the seat.
