Workplace Revolution event in Cedar Rapids will examine workplace culture
Jun. 5, 2014 6:00 pm, Updated: Jun. 5, 2014 8:51 pm
A new event this month will feature local and national and speakers addressing health and wellness, cultural competency, surviving in a multigenerational workforce and other issues relating to workplace culture.
Workplace Revolution on June 12 will give participants a national perspective on best practices relating to gender, diversity, generational issues and health and wellness in the workplace, according to Vanessa Solesbee of the Solesbee Group.
'When you think about creating a successful company, no matter the size or where it's located, often you focus on the product, the bottom line, and processes that are going to make whatever you need to happen,” said Solesbee, who is organizing Workplace Revolution. 'You often don't think about the people, the organizational narrative, that broad umbrella of culture and all the things that go into creating a sense of place within the organization.”
Speakers will discuss different types of workplace structures, Solesbee said. For example, not all Corridor companies have a traditional hierarchy.
'What does that look like and what companies large and small are using different types of structures?” she said.
Employers also will get a complete picture of how to create a positive workplace culture, Solesbee said. Some businesses have health and wellness programs in place already, or have cultural competency, but they don't have a complete sense of workplace culture.
Solesbee hopes participants will be inspired to learn more by attending the event. As Corridor companies and entities focus on recruitment and retention efforts, Solesbee said workplace culture is 'the missing piece.”
Presenting organizers for Workplace Revolution are Diversity Focus, Kirkwood Community College, the city of Cedar Rapids and the Iowa City Area Development Group.
The event will begin at 8:15 a.m. on June 12 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in downtown Cedar Rapids. To register, visit www.workplace-revolution.com.
