UPDATED: Police said a woman suffered serious cut wounds during a fight with another woman at a Cedar Rapids residence.
Around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to 298 22nd Ave. SW and determined that a woman who lives there, 41-year-old Linda Bailey, had been slashed on her her left arm and left side.
“The victim came home and found the suspect in her (house) when she wasn't supposed to be,” Lt. Dominic Wibe said. “A fight ensued.”
When police arrived, the suspect was already gone, but she returned to the residence around 1 a.m. and was taken into custody. Patrice M. Howard, 39, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
Wibe said the argument was over a man. Howard allegedly used a box cutter to slash Bailey, he said.
Bailey was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where she was receiving treatment Tuesday morning. Her injuries are serious, but not considered life-threatening, police said.
An investigation was continuing.
