Woman found along road released from hospital
Jun. 18, 2012 9:25 am
IOWA CITY - A woman whom Coralville police found lying along the side of a highway last week has been released from the hospital.
Though the approximately 30-year-old woman has been identified, police are not releasing her name.
A police officer found her lying along Highway 6 shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday. Police said she appeared breathless and without a pulse, and first responders performed CPR to revive her before she was brought to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The woman told police she'd been assaulted and dumped on the side of the road. Police said last week that they were unable to immediately determine the specifics of the alleged attack because of the woman's “current and previous medical conditions.”
Coralville Police Chief Barry Bedford said Monday that the woman hadn't sustained any life-threatening injuries, and police are continuing to investigate how she wound up along the side of the highway.
“We are going to keep looking into it,” he said. “Any time there are allegations like this, we take it seriously.”
