Woman dies after being hit by train in Chelsea
CHELSEA - One person has died after being hit by a train in Chelsea Thursday.
A news release from the Tama County Sheriff's Office said a female pedestrian was hit by a train at the Union Pacific railroad crossing on Station Street on the east side of Chelsea.
Emergency responders and deputies arrived at the scene around 9 a.m. Thursday. The woman suffered fatal injuries in the crash.
The woman's name is being withheld pending an autopsy and notification of next of kin, according to the news release.
No information was immediately available regarding the circumstances of the accident.
