ANAMOSA - A Delaware County woman and her 5-year-old daughter were killed Friday afternoon in a three-vehicle collision near Anamosa that also injured the woman's 7-year old daughter.
Rose Krapfl, 27, of Ryan, was killed along with her daughter Mackenzie Crandall shortly after 2 p.m. on E28 off Ridge Road, two miles west of Anamosa. A pickup driven by Lyle Heinrich of Langworthy crossed the center line and struck Krapfl's SUV as it rounded a left-hand curve, according to the Iowa State Patrol crash report.
The crash ripped the front and side off Krapfl's SUV and flattened the front of the pickup.
Shawn O'Brien, 53, of Springville, then rolled his SUV into a ditch after swerving to avoid the wreckage.
Neither O'Brien nor Heinrich was injured, according to the report. Krapfl's daughter Peyton Crandall was life-flighted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, and the extent of her injuries has not been released.
The Iowa State Patrol is still investigating the incident.
