Woman charged after stabbing in Iowa City

IOWA CITY - A Chicago woman sits in the Johnson County Jail after police said she stabbed her boyfriend.

Officers responded to a residence on Roberts Rd. in rural Johnson County on Friday around 7:20 p.m. for a 911 call from a male reporting he had been stabbed.

Upon arriving, officers found Dorthy A. Thompson, 42, walking and carrying a knife, according to a criminal complaint. When asked to drop the knife, Thompson dropped it - and without being questioned - told the officers she had stabbed her boyfriend for cheating on her, according to the report.

Police said the man and two witnesses all said Thompson stabbed the man during an argument.

She was charged with domestic abuse assault with intent or displaying a weapon and remains in jail on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
