Four inches or more of snow is expected, starting Wednesday afternoon, as most of Eastern Iowa comes under a winter storm watch.
The watch will be in effect starting at 3 p.m. Wednesday and running through Thursday night.
Snow will spread across the area from the west Wednesday afternoon, becoming more widespread Wednesday night. The snow may then become moderate to locally heavy from mid-Wednesday night into Thursday morning. It's expected to taper off from west to east by Thursday night.
Current indications are that the heaviest snowfall will occur along and north of Interstate 80. But take heart -- the snow is expected to be light and fluffy, with a snow ratio as high as 20:1 -- that is, 20 inches of snow per inch of rain.
