Williamsburg hires Sanchez as head boys’ hoops coach

Jun. 11, 2015 11:17 pm
CEDAR RAPIDS – Adam Sanchez is back in the game after a very short hiatus.
He has been hired as the new head boys' basketball coach at Williamsburg, he and the school confirmed Thursday. Sanchez resigned as head coach at Cedar Rapids Washington in early May after three seasons.
'I am excited about being part of a great opportunity like Williamsburg as a coach,” Sanchez said. 'I look forward to working with such great, supportive people on a daily basis to continue to build upon the successes of the basketball program.”
Sanchez replaces Dave Schlabaugh, who resigned last month. He led the Raiders to a fourth-place finish at the state tournament in Class 3A this past season.
A Hudson native, Sanchez came to Washington from Grand View University in Des Moines, where he was an assistant. He also was a graduate assistant at Drake.
Sanchez inherited a program at Washington that was winless when he took over. The Warriors shared a piece of the Mississippi Valley Conference Mississippi Division championship this past season.
He and his family already live in Williamsburg.
