CORALVILLE – Longtime Coralville Mayor Jim Fausett has a challenger in this fall's election, and it's someone he knows well.
City Council member John Weihe said in a news release Wednesday night that he has filed nomination papers to run for mayor.
Weihe has served on the council since 1996. Fausett has been mayor for that same amount of time and announced earlier this month he'd seek another two-year term as mayor.
Weihe, age 53, has been an optometrist in Coralville for 27 years, according to the release. He did not immediately return phone and email messages seeking comment.
The Coralville mayor does not have a vote on the five-member City Council but does have veto power. The mayor is elected at large.
The deadline to file for the Nov. 8 election is 5:00 p.m. Sept. 22.
