Traffic camera ban passes Iowa Senate: Government-run traffic cameras that record drivers who speed and run red lights would be banned under legislation approved Tuesday by state lawmakers. The traffic camera ban passed the Iowa Senate on a 32-18 vote after legislators discussed whether the cameras are appropriate traffic safety tools or moneymaking constitutional violations. Cornell students reject group with 'alt-right' reputation: Several Cornell College students are accusing student senators of having a liberal bias after the campus leaders rejected a request to start a Cornell chapter of Turning Point USA — a national organization criticized for trending toward the alt-right. Critics of the group — including the Southern Poverty Law Center — say it promotes racist and sexist ideology. But the students who were denied say they were unfairly rejected based on political ideology. Read more >
Indian Creek Nature Center plans sustainable farming on donated land in Linn County: Indian Creek Nature Center announced Tuesday that it's looking to use its largest gift ever of land to nurture new farming practices, known as permaculture, amid the corn and soybean fields of Linn County. The plans call for an 8-acre organic field with vegetable crops, fruit and nut trees and cover crops, such as wheat grass that also an be used for consumption, and eventually chickens and goats. White House biofuels meeting ends as battle continues: A White House meeting, which included President Donald Trump, over making changes to the country's biofuels mandate ended Tuesday with 'no deal,' said Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, as the battle between farm and oil-producing states over the 13-year old Renewable Fuel Standard continues to rage. Read more >
Joe Wieskamp achieves 'biggest goal of the season,' leads Muscatine to state tournament: There were rampant rumors out there over the summer that Muscatine's Joe Wieskamp was going to transfer to a larger school. But he stuck with his team and became 4A's all-time career leading scorer this season, a 6-foot-6 wing with a fine shooting stroke and the ability to get to the lane seemingly at will.
