IOWA-CHINA TRADE MISSION — Gov. Kim Reynolds is planning a July reunion with her former boss, U.S. Ambassador Terry Branstad — in China. Reynolds announced Tuesday she will be leading an all-Iowa agriculture trade mission to China July 19-28. QUOTABLE — 'I feel very fortunate that they're able to give some assistance and that my house was chosen. It's just going to help those homeowners do that work that they can't or aren't able to do on their own and make them feel prouder of their homes. There is so much that I can't do that they can and I know it's going to make me feel really good about my house.' Edith Chase, on work being planned for her home as part of Matthew 25's Transform Week
Joe Zalesky has begun preparing to open a fireworks store in Marion, shown on Thursday, May 25, 2017. Zalesky had been moving consumer-grade fireworks in to the building on Wednesday when he said the state fire marshal, Marion Fire and Marion PD told him he had to remove the fireworks. License applications are not yet available but a new law allows sales of fireworks beginning June 1 by licensed retailers from permanent structures. (Liz Martin/The Gazette)
