Waverly woman repeatedly strangled, beaten and raped

A 43-year-old Waverly man charged Friday is accused of confining a woman, while raping, beating and repeatedly strangling her, according to a criminal complaint filed in Bremer County District Court.
The woman's esophagus was torn from the strangulation and she had severe bruising and a broken nose from the assault, according to the complaint. She was strangled until unconscious.
Christopher Sloan, of 408 3rd St. NW, was charged Friday with attempted murder, second-degree sexual abuse and third-degree kidnapping. He made an initial appearance Friday and preliminary hearing is set 4 p.m. Nov. 22. Sloan remains in the Bremer County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
According to the complaint, the woman was confined to a room in her home by objects and Sloan blocking the door late Wednesday night into early Thursday.
No other details are available, Bremer County Attorney Kasey Wadding said Monday. He is waiting for all the police reports and statements.
Bremer County Sheriff's Office didn't have the woman's age available Monday.
