A Waterloo teen was sentenced last week in U.S. District Court to more than 10 years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine while he carried a firearm.
Tyrell Wells, 19, pleaded guilty in June to distributing one ounce of crack cocaine in February 2009 in Waterloo while armed with a 9mm handgun, according to court records.
He was sentenced Oct. 13 to 10 years and 10 months. He will also be on supervised release for five years after his sentence.
During the plea hearing, Wells admitted he carried the firearm while he was selling crack cocaine in Waterloo during February and March of 2009, according to U.S. Attorney's Office news release.
