A Waterloo man suspected in a double shooting made his initial court appearance Friday.
Kevin Ambrose, 33, was arrested Thursday at a house on West Fifth Street. Police believe Ambrose was responsible for the shootings at 704 Newell St. Wednesday night that left 59-year-old Kay Straw dead and her daughter, 33-year-old Marlene Buss, wounded.
In court on Friday, Ambrose listed 704 Newell St. as his address. Police said Thursday that Ambrose and Buss lived together. On the day of the shooting, Buss placed a no-contact order on Ambrose, police said.
The judge set a $250,000 bond for Ambrose's charge of possession of a firearm as a felon. That charge could result in up to five years in prison. The judge kept a no-bond order for a parole violation charge against Ambrose, who was on parole for several previous forgery charges.
The criminal complaint says that officers talked with several witnesses at the scene of the shooting who saw Ambrose with a firearm.
Ambrose is expected back in court May 14.
