May. 3, 2012 8:42 am
One woman was killed and another injured after a shooting Wednesday night, police said.
Police were called to 704 Newell Street at around 7 p.m. when a woman called 911 saying someone shot her. They found two women suffering from gunshot wounds.
Investigators identified the women as Kay Straw, 59, and her daughter Marlene Buss, 33. Both lived at the home on Newell Street. Emergency responders took Straw to Allen Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries. Buss also went to the hospital, where she was receiving treatment.
Investigators said the shooting wasn't the act of a stranger. The victims and shooter reportedly knew each other.
Police said they were still searching for suspects as of Thursday morning.
An autopsy has been scheduled for Straw at the DCI Criminalist Laboratory in Ankeny.
