Water main break leaves some Iowa City homes without water

About 40 homes in Iowa City are without water this morning. Around 8 a.m., a water main broke in the 300
0 block of Wayne Avenue. Crews are currently working to remedy the problem.
Ed Moreno, Iowa City's water superintendent, said water main breaks are not unusual this time of year as frost-covered ground starts to thaw and puts pressure on the pipes. According to Moreno, the number of water main pipes this year in Iowa City has been “quite low.”
The city hopes to have the water main fixed within a couple of hours.
