Washington County crashes leave at least 1 dead

WASHINGTON, Iowa - At least one person died and several others were injured Saturday in separate Washington County crashes, including one that involved a school bus.
At about 7:30 a.m., authorities responded to a rollover crash near the intersection of Highway 218 and 265th Street, south of Ainsworth.
Todd Gordon, 59, of Iowa City, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Keith H. Stairs, of Cedar Rapids, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, where his condition was unknown.
Authorities were called to two other crashes on Highway 218 Saturday. At about 6:20 a.m., authorities responded to a single vehicle rollover at 150th Street.
One person was transported to University Hospital & Clinics. The person's condition was not known.
Less than an hour later, at about 7:05 a.m., an Iowa City School District bus carrying several students rolled onto its side near Riverside.
At least seven people were injured, including passengers and the school bus driver.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Department, the bus went into the median and onto its side near the intersection of U.S. Highway 218 and 160th Street in rural Washington County.
Students on the bus were moved to a Highland Community School District bus and transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
