The Washington Community School District announced that they would not have school today, Friday, October 6th.
The unplanned closure was due to 'some concerning messages on school safety” according to the district's website.
Upon investigation by local law enforcement, the district released that 'the student accused of making alleged threats involving the high school, never made the threats. Two students posted falsified information against a student of which the accused had no prior knowledge.”
The district and local law enforcement are not releasing the names of the individuals involved, or potential legal ramifications at this time.
The release states the district will be working with local law enforcement to ensure school and student safety, and with students and staff on appropriate usage of social media.
Any planned evening activities are expected to continue within the district.
The new Washington High School, 1111 S. Ave. B, Washington, Iowa, opens today with the Washington Community School District's first day of school. After four failed bond issues, the district was able to fund construction of the almost million facility through local-option sales tax dollars. (Washington Community School District)?
