Von Maur Inc., the Davenport-based, family-owned chain of department stores, is among retailers in talks with Iowa River Landing about leasing space in the 180-acre development.
“We're still in conversation with them at this time,” said Deanna Trumbull, a retail consultant working with the City of Coralville. “That's not something that's been finalized as of yet.”
An online brochure states that “Iowa River Landing provides the opportunity for 330,000 square feet of retail, entertainment, anchored by a 85,000-square-foot Von Maur department store.” Trumbull said the reference to Von Maur was “premature.”
Von Maur operates a store in Iowa City's Sycamore Mall. The company has 25 stores in 10 states, with a store expected to open this fall in Alpharetta, a northern suburb of Atlanta, Ga., and plans for additional stores in Alabama, Tennessee and the Carolinas in the coming years.
Calls to Von Maur seeking comment about a store in Iowa River Landing were not returned.
Coralville City Manager Kelly Hayworth has stated in the past that Iowa River Landing wants to attract upscale retailers that do not already have a presence in the Coralville/Iowa City market.
Trumbull said she hopes to announce some of Iowa River Landing's retail tenants within the next month.
