Vinton man charged with vehicular homicide in 2009 crash

A 21-year-old Vinton man was charged Wednesday in Benton County District Court with vehicular homicide for the death of his 18-year-old passenger in 2009.

Brandon Leo Hundley was charged as a result of an investigation into the single vehicle crash July 30, 2009 on 33rd Avenue Drive, just north of 59th Street Trail in Benton County, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Office. Hundley's passenger Jarin DeWayne Janey, 18, of rural Shellsburg, died from injuries in the accident.

Hundley was driving a 2006 Ford Ranger when he lost control on a gravel road going into a ditch and striking a tree, according to a police report. Hundley and another passenger Shelby Usher, 18, of Vinton, were taken to a Cedar Rapids hospital for treatment of their less serious injuries.
