A rural Vinton woman remains in critical condition after police say her husband struck her with a car on Christmas Day.
Ann Starry, 45, was still in the intensive care unit at St. Luke's Hospital on Tuesday, according to her brother-in-law, Mark Hixson, of Cedar Rapids. Witnesses told police Starry and her husband, Kelly, were arguing in the 100 block of West 12th Street around 4 p.m. on Friday.
When Ann Starry got out of the car, Kelly Starry allegedly struck her with it, knocking her to the ground, witnesses said. Vinton Police Chief Jeff Tilson said Ann Starry was “partially run over.”
Kelly Starry, 48, was arrested by police a short time later at the couple's residence a few miles east of Vinton. He is charged with assault causing serious injury and domestic assault.
He was booked into the Iowa County Jail, but was released Sunday after posting a $7,000 bond. A judge has filed a no contact order for the couple.
Tilson referred questions about the case to Benton County Attorney David Thompson, who did not return phone calls seeking comment.
