A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries when he was stuck by a car in southwest Cedar Rapids this morning, police said.
The motorcyclist was attempting to cross 16th Avenue SW at Jacolyn Drive SW around 6:30 a.m. when a westbound car struck the bike.
The man riding the motorcycle was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with serious injuries, police said.
"He was conscious and even doing some talking here on the scene," Sgt. Ryan Abodeely said.
The female driver of the car was not injured.
Fragments of plastic surrounded the bike as it laid on its side in the middle of the intersection. The car's front bumper was torn off.
Abodeely said the motorcyclist had a stop sign and apparently pulled out in front of the car.
An accident reconstructionist was on the scene.
Charges are pending, police said.
