UPDATE: Commuter traffic clogged for about 45 minutes on Interstate 380 in Cedar Rapids this morning after a two-vehicle crash.
Police closed the southbound lanes of the interstate around 7:10 a.m. when a car struck a pickup on the 5-in-1 bridge, forcing traffic onto downtown streets. Police said a car driven by Trina Baumgartner, 24, of Cedar Rapids, rear-ended a pickup driven by Todd Hamer, 39, of Cedar Rapids, on the north edge of the interstate bridge.
Witnesses told police that Baumgartner's car had just entered the interstate and hit the back of Hamer's truck.
Baumgartner was taken to Mercy Medical Center to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Motorists were detoured off the interstate at the First Street East exit while emergency personnel worked at the scene. Northbound traffic was not impacted.
Police cited Baumgartner for failure to maintain control and issued a ticket to Hamer driving with a suspended license.
The traffic jam cleared up just before 8 a.m.
