Victim of fatal pickup crash near Solon identified

UPDATE: An Iowa City man died when a pickup ran off a highway Monday night east of Solon, authorities said.

The Iowa State Patrol identified Paul Duwe, 40, as the man killed in the one-vehicle crash.

According to the crash report, Duwe's pick-up was northbound on 180th Street NE and rounding a curve around 8:05 p.m. when it went into the west ditch, struck a field driveway and went airborne. Authorities said the pickup landed its top.

Duwe was pronounced dead at the scene.

It was the second fatality crash in Johnson County in as many nights. Jason Alden, 34, of Marengo, died Sunday in a single-vehicle rollover on Mehaffey Bridge Road between Solon and North Liberty, authorities said.
