Victim in fatal crash on Old River Road identified

The driver killed in a one-vehicle crash on Old River Road in Linn County was identified Thursday morning.

Michael Dewayne Jones, 39, of 1311 15th St. SE, died in the crash, the Linn County Sheriff's Office said.

Reports indicate that Jones lost control of his vehicle coming around a curve. The vehicle slid into a ditch and struck a tree.

The sheriff's office says two people were in the car. The passenger, 32-year-old Dannelle Fite of Cedar Rapids, was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, then transferred to the University Hospitals in Iowa City. Her condition is still unknown.

Sheriff's deputies, along with Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments, were at the scene for several hours.

Investigators say the car was in the ditch for several hours before someone alerted emergency workers to the accident.
