A man seriously injured in a June 2 car-motorcycle accident in Coralville remained in critical but stable condition Monday afternoon.
Benjamin N. Solinski, 30, of North Liberty was hit by a car whose driver pulled out into an intersection after failing to see Solinski on his motorcycle.
Solinski's fiance, Robin Barker, 33, also of North Liberty, said Solinski was wearing a helmet but still suffered a head injury and numerous broken bones. Barker said Solinski is receiving orthopedic surgery today to repair the broken bones, but said his head trauma is the biggest concern.
Officers were called to the intersection of Oakdale Boulevard and First Avenue in Coralville June 2 for a collision involving a car and motorcycle, and found Solinski face down in the median when they arrived. He was taken to University Hospitals by ambulance.
Police said the skid marks on the payment indicated that Solinski attempted to stop, but struck the approaching car's front passenger quarter panel.
The driver of the other vehicle, a minor, was charged with failure to obey a stop or yield sign.
Barker said she and Solinski are engaged to be married in a few months.
