Vandals caused damage at three Fayette County hog confinements Sunday evening into Monday morning, authorities said.
The Fayette County Sheriff's office said thousands of dollars in damage was done at the confinements near the towns of Sumner, Hawkeye and West Union. In all three, vandals caused damage in the office, and at two of the confinements, hogs were turned loose.
Along with the office damage, the vandals used a shotgun to shoot a hole in a transformer near a confinement at 24430 130th St., and released several hogs at 21714 O Ave., authorities said.
Deputies later took a report at 14740 200th St., where the vandals used machinery to damage the building. Hogs were turned loose there, too, and were roaming around the area, authorities said.
Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call the Fayette County Sheriff's Office at (563) 422-6067. Anonymous calls are accepted.
