Van ends up wedged under semi after Interstate 80 crash

A 19-year-old Muscatine woman was injured after an accident involving a semi-trailer truck on Interstate 80 Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Cheyenne Brauns was eastbound in a Dodge Caravan on I-80 near mile marker 259 in Cedar County at 4:20 p.m. when she attempted to pass an eastbound. Brauns swerved and clipped the semi, and her van went underneath the semi's trailer, the report said. Both vehicles came to rest in the right lane.

Brauns was wearing her seat belt, and was taken by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, the report said.

The driver of the semi, 41-year-old Pawel Polimirski of New York City, was uninjured.

No condition update was available for Brauns Tuesday night.
