CEDAR RAPIDS — The shuttered AMC Classic Westdale 12 movie theater building in southwest Cedar Rapids sold for $750,000 in an online auction this week.
The buyer was not named nor was the future use of the property announced.
The sale, finalized Wednesday, was below the assessed value — $1.8 million — of the 46,181-square-foot building.
But that value included the parking lot in front of the theater, which already has been sold and will be the site of a new, larger Texas Roadhouse restaurant, expected to open in the spring.
The movie theater closed in March 2020 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and never reopened. It opened in February 1999 as the Carmike Cinemas Wynnsong 12. AMC bought the theater in 2016.
