Four people suffered serious injuries in a two-car collision near Kirkwood Community College late Tuesday, police said.
Ambulances rushed to the intersection of Kirkwood Boulevard and Devonwood Avenue SW a few minutes after 11 p.m. Police Lt. Kenneth Washburn said six people - five in one car, one in the other – were injured to various degrees.
None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening, Washburn said.
According to the police report, Dylan Schreder, 20, of Cedar Rapids, was turning from Devonwood Avenue SW to Kirkwood Boulevard SW and went into the path of a northbound car driven by Samantha Hocken, 19, of Walker.
Four passengers were in Schreder's car: Zachary Schultz, 20, Kevin Lounsberry, 22, Petronella Lusthoff, 19, and Garrett Werlinger, 19, all of Cedar Rapids.
Police reported that Schreder, Schultz, Lounsberry and Lusthoff all suffered serious injuries and were being treated at Mercy Medical Center. Hocken was also hurt and drove herself to St. Luke's Hospital.
Schreder was cited for driving with a suspended license, failure to yield, no insurance and operating without registration.
