University of Iowa Vice President Doug True to retire

Oct. 21, 2014 6:04 pm
IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa's Senior Vice President and Treasurer Doug True is planning to retire from those roles, which he's held since 1991 and 1988, respectively, UI President Sally Mason told the campus community via email Tuesday.
Rod Lehnertz, current director of planning, design and construction, will serve as interim senior vice president for finance and operations, and Terry Johnson, current associate vice president and university controller, will serve as interim university chief financial officer and treasurer, according to Mason.
Lehnertz and Johnson will work with True this fall and formally begin their interim leadership in January. Mason said she plans to conduct a search for permanent replacements.
'The need for interim leadership immediately upon Doug's retirement is prudent to maintain continuity of $750 million in flood recovery activities and a host of financial and programmatic initiatives underway that are critical to the future of the university,” Mason said in the email.
Lehnertz and Johnson are 'experienced and trusted UI leaders” who have been directly involved with the issues, Mason said.
She thanked True 'for his many years of leadership.”
'Doug has provided the UI with decades of fiscal integrity, informed vision, essential continuity, and unmatched commitment,” Mason said. 'I and many others will miss his deep institutional knowledge, sharp mind, and wise counsel.”
