Aug. 31, 2015 6:45 pm
IOWA CITY - Police are investigating a report of sexual assault from over the weekend.
An email sent Monday afternoon alerted students and staff at the University of Iowa to a reported sexual assault that happened August 28.
Police received a report Friday night of a sexual assault in a dorm on the east side of campus. The victim and suspect were acquaintances, police said.
A student or employee found to be in violation of University of Iowa's sexual misconduct policies faces punishment that can include expulsion or termination, according to the release.
Monday's alert was the third issued to students in the past two weeks. On August 19, police emailed students about a sexual assault reported near the Iowa River. An incident of inappropriate touching was reported to police on August 22, also at an unspecified dorm on the east side of campus.
