The University of Iowa expects to enroll a record 31,000 students this fall, putting a strain on a campus still rebuilding after the 2008 flooding.
Enrollment figures won't be official until the 10th day of classes, which is Friday, but that the preliminary number should top last fall's 30,893 enrollment.
University President Sally Mason on Tuesday noted the increase will be hard for the school because of a housing crunch and rebuilding that continues on the arts campus due to the flooding.
Iowa is building a new dormitory for the first time since 1968. The new $53 million dorm on the west side of campus will house about 500 people when it opens in 2015.
