The University of Iowa's Pappajohn Business Building sustained minimal water damage after a sprinkler line cracked Tuesday morning.
Spokesman Tom Moore said a heater malfunction in the building caused a supply line sprinkler in a third floor stairwell to crack, causing water damage to the surrounding area.
Since the break was in the sprinkler system, an automatic fire alarm was set off and the building was evacuated for a short period of time, Moore said.
Moore said the leak shouldn't affect the rest of the building because the damage was confined to one area, and students returning next week will not be affected.
Moore said repair crews are working today to ensure the pipe is fixed and hopes to have the area cleaned up soon.
An employee of the dean's office tells faculty members they might as well return to the Pappajohn business building at the University of Iowa after a 15-minute evacuation shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Fire officials who inspected the building found water leaking down from the upper floors. (Dave DeWitte/The Gazette)
