UnityPoint Clinic will break ground Thursday for a new building on Williams Boulevard SW in Cedar Rapids, west of Menards, that will separate its family medicine and urgent care clinics.
UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine and Urgent Care at 2375 Edgewood Road SW will become a dedicated urgent care clinic when the new UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine Westdale building is completed in the spring of 2017.
UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine Westdale will bring together the providers at UnityPoint Corridor Family Medicine, 9255 Atlantic Dr. SW, and UnityPoint Westside Family Medicine. Five new providers will be recruited, for a total of 12.
The first floor of the new building will be used as the Family Practice Clinic. The second floor will house X-ray (imaging services), outpatient physical and occupational therapy, and laboratory services by MedLabs.
Dr. John Roof, vice president and UnityPoint Clinic Cedar Rapids medical director, said in a news release that the company has experienced continuing growth in southwest Cedar Rapids.
'In addition to expanding and offering new services to the area, we've also made a concerted effort to separate our urgent care and family medicine clinics so our patients don't have to share the same waiting room,” Roof said. 'This ultimately reduces the spread of illnesses and offers a better patient experience.”
