IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa is warning students, faculty and staff of two new sex assault reports from over the weekend - bringing the total number of reports to three since school started just over a week ago.
UI police on Sunday reported receiving a report from a student who said she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in a residence hall. On Monday, UI police received a report from a student who said she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in an on-campus residence, according to the warning email that was sent to students Tuesday.
Additional details about the two incidents were not made public, but UI leaders say they've made combating sexual violence on campus a priority after critics protested on campus during the last academic year.
UI President Sally Mason during the spring 2014 semester rolled out a 'six-point plan” that she said has added resources for victims, improved training for incoming students and staff, and taken a harsher stance against perpetrators.
